Jaipur is one of the easiest cities in India to get to, with a busy airport, strong rail links in every direction, and highways from all sides. Here is everything you need to plan your travel.

By Air

Jaipur International Airport (JAI) in Sanganer is the closest airport, about 10 km from the venue and roughly 20 to 30 minutes by road depending on traffic.

Jaipur has frequent daily flights from Delhi, Mumbai, Bengaluru, Hyderabad, Ahmedabad, Pune, Kolkata, Chennai and Indore, so most attendees flying in will find a direct route. Fares are usually at their best around six to eight weeks out, and October is a popular travel period in Rajasthan, so booking flights, trains and accommodation early is recommended.

If your city does not have a direct flight, Delhi is the easiest connection. From there you can either take a short onward flight or switch to the train, which takes about four hours and often works out cheaper and simpler than a connecting flight.

Prepaid taxis and app cabs are both available at the terminal. Ola, Uber and Rapido all operate from the airport.

Coming from outside India? Jaipur has direct international connections to destinations including Dubai, Abu Dhabi, Sharjah, Muscat and Bangkok. Some seasonal international routes may vary, so check the latest schedule before booking.

By Train

Jaipur is very well connected on the Indian Railways network, and for anyone traveling from within Rajasthan or from Delhi, the train is often faster and cheaper than flying.

Which station to book

Jaipur Junction (JP) is the main station and where most long-distance trains stop. It is about 9 km from the venue.

Gandhinagar Jaipur (GADJ) is the closest station to Rajasthan International Center, roughly 3 km away. Many trains stop here, so it is worth checking before you default to Jaipur Junction.

Durgapura (DPA) is another useful stop on the southern side of the city, about 8 km from the venue.

From Delhi, look at the Vande Bharat, Shatabdi and Double Decker services. The fastest Vande Bharat covers the route in under four hours, and the Shatabdi takes about four and a half. There are also direct trains from Mumbai, Ahmedabad, Kolkata, Bengaluru, Chennai, Lucknow, Indore and most cities across Rajasthan.

Book early. October is peak travel season in Rajasthan and reserved train seats fill up weeks in advance. If you are planning to attend, book your tickets as soon as your plans are firm.

By Road

Jaipur sits on NH 48, the Delhi to Mumbai highway, and road access from every direction is good. The Delhi to Jaipur drive is about 280 km and takes five to six hours, with the Gurgaon to Manesar stretch being the usual bottleneck. The Delhi to Mumbai Expressway has also made journeys from the Kota, Sawai Madhopur and Alwar side considerably quicker.

Buses

Sindhi Camp is the main intercity bus terminal in Jaipur, about 9 km from the venue. RSRTC runs regular services from every district in Rajasthan, and there are frequent private Volvo and sleeper buses from Delhi, Ahmedabad, Indore, Udaipur, Jodhpur and Kota. Overnight buses are a practical option if you want to arrive on the morning of the event.

Coming from your city in Rajasthan or nearby states

Approximate road distances and travel times to Jaipur:

From

Distance

By road

Also good by train

Ajmer

135 km

2.5 to 3 hours

Yes, frequent

Alwar

150 km

3 to 4 hours

Yes

Kota

250 km

4 to 4.5 hours

Yes, frequent

Bhilwara

250 km

4.5 to 5 hours

Yes

Jodhpur

335 km

6 to 6.5 hours

Yes, overnight options

Bikaner

335 km

6 to 7 hours

Yes, overnight options

Udaipur

395 km

6.5 to 7 hours

Yes, overnight options

Delhi NCR

280 km

5 to 6 hours

Yes, very frequent

Ahmedabad

660 to 680 km

11 to 12 hours

Yes, direct overnight trains

Surat

about 900 km

14 to 16 hours

Yes, direct trains via Ahmedabad

Distances and travel times are approximate and can vary depending on traffic, route, and train schedules.

Traveling with others from your city? Say hello in the WordCamp Rajasthan community group. Rapido is handy and cheaper for solo trips, with bike, auto, and cab options.

Autos and e-rickshaws. Widely available. Agree on the fare before you start if the meter is not being used.

City buses. JCTSL low-floor buses cover most main routes at very low fares.

Jaipur Metro. The Pink Line runs between Mansarovar and Badi Chaupar and connects Jaipur Junction, Sindhi Camp and the walled city. It is great for sightseeing, though it does not reach the Jhalana area, so plan on a cab or auto for the last stretch to the venue.

Reaching the venue

Rajasthan International Center is in Jhalana Doongri, just off Jawahar Lal Nehru Marg (JLN Marg), close to Jawahar Kala Kendra and Birla Mandir. Every cab and auto driver in the city knows JLN Marg, and searching for “Rajasthan International Center” in Google Maps will take you straight there.

Rajasthan International Center
Bhamashah State Data Centre Block-C,
Jhalana Doongri, Jaipur, Rajasthan 302004
https://maps.app.goo.gl/1aF213n5u37GFTvr6

The venue has ample on-site parking if you are driving in.

Roughly how long it takes

Jaipur International Airport to RIC: about 20 to 30 minutes

Jaipur Junction to RIC: about 25 to 30 minutes

Gandhinagar Jaipur station to RIC: about 10 minutes

Sindhi Camp bus stand to RIC: about 25 to 30 minutes

Where to stay

The easiest areas to base yourself are Malviya Nagar, JLN Marg, Tonk Road and C Scheme. All four are within a short ride of the venue and cover everything from hostels and budget hotels to business hotels. C Scheme and the walled city side are the better pick if you want to combine the WordCamp with a day of sightseeing.

If you are attending Contributor Day on 3 October, we recommend booking accommodation for the night of 2 October so you can arrive relaxed and start the morning on time.

What October in Jaipur feels like

Early October is one of the best times to visit Rajasthan. Days are warm and clear, evenings are pleasant, and the monsoon is well behind us. Pack light layers, comfortable shoes for a full day on your feet, sunglasses and a water bottle. A light jacket or shawl is useful for the evening.

Questions about travel?

Write to us at rajasthan@wordcamp.org or reach out on our social channels.
